Dutch football legend Marco van Basten has openly expressed concern about the crisis that Italian football is going through.

In an interview given to journalist Carlo Pellegatti, during the presentation of the book "50 matches, infinite emotions, il Milan", the former striker did not spare criticism.

According to him, one of the main problems of Serie A is related to club ownership:

"Today there are many foreign owners who have no connection to the history of the teams and are not interested in it. This is unfortunate. Italian football must return to the hands of Italians so that it can climb to the top of Europe again," said Van Basten.

He focuses particularly on Milan, the club with which he won the "Ballon d'Or" in 1988, expressing disappointment at the current situation.

"Milan is no longer what it used to be. I hope it returns soon, because today Inter dominates in Italy and I don't like that at all," he stressed.

The former Dutch star also commented on Italy's situation, noting the lack of big figures: "Italy has always had exceptional goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and strikers. Today it is difficult to find these players and that is strange. Italy used to dominate the world, now not anymore."

Finally, Van Basten also spoke about his preferences in the international arena: in addition to the Netherlands, he admits that he will also support his friend Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil in future competitions.
