Aguero declares Messi the greatest: "I would go back just to play with him"

Sergio “Kun” Aguero, despite a serious Achilles tendon injury in March that left him unable to walk properly, has not abandoned his passion for football. He has been involved in the most dynamic World Cup of all time as a commentator for ESPN. On Tuesday, he was of course present at the Kansas City Stadium for the debut of Argentina and his lifelong friend, Lionel Messi.
Aguero, born in 1988, a year younger than “El Diez” (Maradona), expressed deep emotion after the match, crossing into the press area. “What can I say? You all saw what happened. My flesh is shivering, it was an impressive emotion. I have been retired for a long time, he is still the strongest of all. I hope they continue to say that he has come to the end, so he will give us joy in America too. With him, everything is possible. I would like to go back to play next to him…”, said Aguero. Earlier, during the live broadcast on the pitch, Messi had appeared behind him during the warm-up, giving him a friendly pat. “There is a real friendship between us, but I would never have expected such a gesture. He was preparing for his debut in the World Cup and he was kind enough to come and greet me. How nice.”
But the most significant statement came during the televised match. Aguero, like many of his colleagues, had called Messi the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time), but had always avoided comparing him to Maradona, adhering to the cultural principle that forbids comparing champions of different eras. This was especially sensitive as he was married to Diego's daughter, Gianinna. However, in Kansas City, filled with the enthusiasm of the moment and sitting next to Carlos Tevez, he declared: "On his debut he scored three goals straight away. Leo is the greatest footballer of all time. And for that, I would like the debate to end. Enough."
The marriage between Aguero and Gianinna Maradona, from which he had a son, Benjamin, ended in 2012. However, the technical and friendly relationship between Sergio "Kun" Aguero and Lionel Messi seems to never end, highlighting Aguero's boundless admiration for Messi as the greatest player in history, transcending even his previous personal ties.
