UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the UN was ready to help resume shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, speaking with Gulf countries and the European Council about the situation.

He referred to a similar agreement, the Black Sea Grain Initiative in 2022, which had allowed the transport of Ukrainian grain and fertilizers despite the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
