The opposition that "lost itself", that Basha should not have become

There are moments in politics when your opponent defeats you. But there are also more difficult moments, when you are brought down by yourself, when the one you considered a historical leader, together with his puppets, does his best to work behind your back for his own purposes, becoming an ally of your political opponent.

Today in parliament after the Balla-Topalli remarks, the admission by the former number 2 of the DP that she was proud that her party, in 2021, collaborated with the SP against the Democrats due to Lulzim Basha being the party leader, was truly shocking.

Moreover, this stance complements Sali Berisha's statement, I quote: "It's better that the DP didn't win in 2021", these are not just ugly episodes. They are evidence. Evidence that the opposition's defeat was not only the product of the strong power in front of it — but of a leadership that feared victory more than defeat.

Because they feared that Lulzim Basha's victory would eclipse them, make them small, remove them from the political scene, and de-factor them.

So the solution that satisfies hypocrisy, in this case, was only Defeat.

Defeat keeps the myth alive. It keeps the leader alive. It keeps the "enemy" alive.

Defeat is the perfect terrain to rule a party without ever bringing it to power.

For years, Democrats have been told that the election was stolen, that the system was rigged, that they were up against an unfair machine. But today a more bitter truth emerges: while the grassroots fought, sacrificed, and faced pressure, other calculations were being made at the top — calculations for control, not for victory.

When political leaders consider defeat “better than victory,” then the opposition is no longer an alternative to power — it is a personal instrument. And this is the greatest tragedy for any political force: as it turns from a hope for change, into a mere means of individual survival.

Those who speak most strongly about the "regime" are those who admit that victory was not a priority.

Those who talk about the "sacrifice of the Democrats" are those who today discover that the sacrifice of those people was part of an internal struggle for power within the party.

So, the question is no longer "why is Rama winning?".

The question is: Did this leadership ever really want Lulzim Basha to be prime minister?

Because if his defeat is a strategy, then the biggest enemy is not in front of him. /Bignews.al
