"23 victims in 3 weeks from accidents"/ Expert: Alarming, war balance sheet

Road safety expert, Fatmir Hasho, has stated that the accident situation in the country is alarming, following the tragic incident in which two children lost their lives and another was seriously injured.
Invited to A2CNN, he said that in the last three weeks alone, 23 victims have been recorded from road accidents.
" In three weeks, 23 Albanian citizens. It's alarming. Even in war, so many people are not killed," said Hasho.
He added that the situation is not new and according to him, the measures taken over the years have not had any effect. "The state has not moved 1 mm from the mark for years. Neither the roads nor the signage have had enough impact, as long as we have this number of incidents," he said.
Hasho also stressed that driving behavior has worsened, citing alcohol and drug use as one of the main causes of accidents.
" Albanians are very aggressive behind the wheel. Powerful cars, high speeds and the use of alcohol and drugs have worsened the situation ," he said.
Referring to the recent accident in Durrës, where two children lost their lives, Hasho said that the driver of the vehicle was drunk and had a problematic history on the road, including previous cases of punishment and license revocation.
According to him, residents of the area had previously reported the driver's dangerous behavior, but the lack of institutional response has led to tragic consequences.
"It should be seen where the response of local institutions and the police failed, when such behavior was reported earlier ," he added.
