Albania was shocked yesterday by the macabre accident that occurred in Lushnje, where two children lost their lives and a third was injured.
Journalist Klodiana Haxhiar reports for BalkanWeb that the family of author Nikoll Radaçi has left the neighborhood for fear of retaliation.
Despite continuous reports, fines and measures for driving and violating traffic rules, 57-year-old Nikoll Radaçi, who was driving at high speed and under the influence of alcohol, was not stopped even by the tragedy he caused. The high speed at which he was driving in a populated area interrupted the play of 3 minors and the lives of two of them, brutally hitting them while they were playing on the sidewalk.
From the security footage and the testimonies of the residents, it turns out that 57-year-old Nikoll Radaçi left the scene after the accident he caused, without looking back at what he caused, claiming that he was afraid of the reaction of the citizens. Further, after the establishment of checkpoints in Durrës, he was found by the Police patrol, who stopped and handcuffed him. According to the Durrës Police, from the alcohol test conducted, it turned out that Nikoll Radaçi was driving the vehicle in a drunken state, where the percentage of alcohol from the first test resulted in 0.73 mg/l and from the second test 0.70 mg/l, while a blood sample was also taken for toxicological examination.
57-year-old Nikoll Radaçi, a resident of the same neighborhood as the families of the children he caused the accident, was convicted in 2020 for wrongful overtaking and speeding twice, with his driving license suspended for 1 month in 2022.
Residents of neighborhood number 15 in Durrës told News24 that they have reported the 57-year-old several times for the way he drove, feeling endangered. The worst happened this Sunday, when because of him, two children aged 10 and 12 tragically lost their lives, while an 8-year-old, the brother of one of the victims, is still in hospital. Sources from the Trauma Hospital say that the minor has passed the risk to his life and will be transferred to the ward, where he will be treated for his injuries, giving hope to his parents.
Durrës Police announce that 57-year-old Nikoll Radaçi will face justice for the criminal offenses of “Violation of traffic rules”, resulting in the death of two people, “Driving a vehicle in an irregular manner” (while drunk) and “Leaving the scene of an accident”.
