Police shed light on tragic incident in Shëngjin: 5 citizens from Kosovo were swept away by waves, two dead

A serious incident occurred this Wednesday afternoon in the Rana e Hedhun area in Shëngjin, where two citizens from Kosovo lost their lives after being swept away by strong waves in the sea.

According to the Police, at around 16:30, a report was received that several people who had entered the sea to bathe were in difficulty and at risk of drowning due to waves caused by strong winds.

Immediately after the alert, Border Police services, officers from the Lezha Local Police Directorate, and emergency teams arrived at the scene.

Thanks to the immediate intervention of several citizens with Jet Skis, in cooperation with the Police forces, it was possible to extract five citizens from Kosovo from the sea. The injured were urgently transported to the Lezha Regional Hospital to receive the necessary medical assistance.

According to preliminary information from the hospital emergency room, two of them did not survive their injuries, while the other three are receiving medical treatment.

At around 4:30 PM, the Police services received a report that in the Rana e Hedhun area, in Shëngjin, several citizens who had entered the sea to bathe, as a result of the waves caused by the strong wind, were in difficulty and at risk of drowning.

Immediately after receiving the notification, Border Police services, the services of the Lezha Local Police Directorate, as well as emergency services, went to the given address.

Thanks to the immediate response of citizens with Jet Skis, in cooperation with the Police services, it was possible to retrieve 5 citizens from Kosovo from the sea, who were urgently transported to the Lezha Regional Hospital for medical assistance.

According to preliminary information from the Lezha Regional Hospital Emergency Department, 2 of the citizens have lost their lives, while the other 3 citizens are receiving medical assistance.

The investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, continues its actions to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
