"You're crazy"/ Trump confirms tense phone call with Netanyahu: I

US President Donald Trump has confirmed reports of a heated exchange with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, admitting that he used harsh language during a phone call while seeking to curb Israeli military action in Lebanon.

In an interview published by the New York Post on Wednesday, Trump was asked about reports that he had confronted Netanyahu about Israel's ongoing fighting with Hezbollah and threats to attack the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

“You said, 'Are you crazy? What are you doing? I helped you stay out of jail.' Is that true? Did you speak to him in those terms?” the interviewer asked.

“Yes,” Trump replied. “I was a little concerned by his ongoing war with Lebanon.”

Trump said he asked the Israeli leader to de-escalate the situation, telling the newspaper's podcast: "I said, 'Bibi, we have to stop this.'"

However, Trump sought to emphasize that relations between the two remain strong.

"We worked very well together. I really like Bibi. And I work very well with her," he said.

According to reports from Axios and ABC News, Trump was angered by Israeli threats to target Beirut, fearing that further escalation in Lebanon could undermine efforts to revive negotiations with Iran aimed at ending the broader regional conflict.

Reports on Tuesday revealed that Trump had also told Netanyahu: “I’m getting rid of you. Everyone hates you now. Everyone hates Israel because of this.”

Despite the reported disagreement, Trump described himself and Netanyahu as leaders operating under wartime circumstances and asserted that cooperation between Washington and Jerusalem remained intact.

After the call on Sunday, Trump used his Truth Social platform to describe it as "a very productive call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu of Israel."

The exchange comes as the US continues efforts to secure a broader solution in the Middle East.

Trump has repeatedly said that Iran must abandon any efforts to acquire nuclear weapons and that shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz must remain open.
