New developments from the US authorities' investigation are shedding light on one of the worst air disasters in recent years, raising suspicions that the crash of China Eastern Airlines Flight 5735 may have been intentional. The Boeing 737 crashed in March 2022 in China's Guangxi region, killing all 132 people on board. According to reports, the aircraft crashed at high speed into a mountainous area, without giving any emergency signals before the accident.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, one of the pilots is suspected of deliberately interfering with the plane's systems, disabling the autopilot and causing an immediate descent. Cockpit recordings suggest a struggle between them for control of the plane. There were three pilots in the cockpit: Jang Hongda, Zhang Zhengping and Ni Gongtao, which has raised questions about their roles and actions at critical moments.
However, Chinese authorities have not yet released a final official report, citing reasons related to “national security and social stability.” This has prompted reactions and criticism for a lack of transparency.
