Iran returns to war tones, IRGC commander: The clash with the US will begin again

A senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said that a military confrontation between Iran and the United States will "likely" resume - just two days after Iran submitted a draft peace proposal to mediator Pakistan.
Mohammad Jafar Asadi, deputy commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters – the army's central command – made these statements on May 2, claiming that evidence shows that "America does not respect any agreement or commitment."
He dismissed US statements and actions since the April 8 ceasefire as largely staged, designed, he said, primarily to stem the decline in oil prices and help Washington "escape the trap it created itself."
He added that his forces are in a state of "full readiness" for any possible situation.
The statements came at a time of heightened diplomatic tensions. Iran submitted its draft to Islamabad on April 29, state media reported, but no details were given about its content.
The war - launched by the US and Israel on February 28 - has been suspended since April 8, although a round of peace talks held in Pakistan has not produced results.
In Washington, US President Donald Trump said he was not satisfied with the Iranian offer.
"At this moment I am not satisfied with what they are offering," he told reporters, attributing the blockade to "major disagreements" within the Iranian leadership.
He presented the choice bluntly: “Do we want to go and just completely destroy them and finish them off forever – or do we want to try to make a deal?”
Trump said he "would prefer not to" choose the first option, "from a humane standpoint."/REL
