Iran targets southern Israel, 40 injured in nuclear city

At least 40 people were injured after an Iranian missile hit the southern Israeli city of Dimona, home to a nuclear facility, according to the Israeli military on Saturday evening.
The rocket, which hit a residential area, left a 10-year-old boy in serious condition with injuries and a woman injured by glass fragments, while 37 others are being treated for minor injuries, the Israeli service Magen David Adom reported on their X account.
According to Iranian state television, the attack on Dimona was in retaliation for a Saturday attack on the Natanz nuclear plant, about 50 kilometers from the city of Kashan, for which the Israeli military says it was not responsible.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said it had “received no signs of damage at the Negev nuclear research center,” adding that “no abnormal radiation levels were detected.” However, the IAEA is “closely monitoring the situation.”
Meanwhile, G7 and European Union foreign ministers on Saturday called for an “immediate and unconditional” halt to the Iranian regime’s attacks on allies in the Middle East. In a joint statement, they said: “We condemn in the strongest terms the regime’s reckless attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, including energy infrastructure, in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Iraq.”
The desert city of Dimona is home to Israel's main nuclear research center, which opened in 1958. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied the widespread belief that it possesses nuclear weapons.
