Alesia Balliu accuses Sali Berisha of hindering the race within the Democratic Party out of fear of competition, while describing his leadership as a process that is harming not only the Democrats, but also the entire country and, above all, is giving Edi Rama a guarantee of victory in the next elections.
Invited to the “Studio Live” show on Report TV, the former candidate for the leadership of the DP also supported the lawsuit filed in court by Mereme Sela for exclusion from the race, describing it as a fair step. According to her, the candidates for the leadership of the DP have not asked for favors, but a fair process and real competition within the party. She accused Berisha of attacking and slandering different voices within the party due to fear of the race.
"If the courts are not commanded by Rama, they should give a fair decision that is in favor of the Democrats and the members who voted for the DP statute in the 2021 assembly. Mereme Sela's request is very fair. The case should have been taken to court. I respect her decision. We are not asking for favors, we were asking for competition and not office, we were asking for meritocracy and to give the Democrats an alternative so that the DP is strong, pro-internationalists and pro-justice. Sali Berisha has no hope of bringing the DP to power. Look at how he is leading the DP today, Albanians do not want such a future. By slandering members of the DP who have made causes, because you are afraid of competition and different opinions, Sali Berisha is a coward," she said.
According to her, the DP needs a deep reformation and a new vision, one that belongs to the democrats and not to an individual or family, while emphasizing that by keeping the DP under control and treating it as private property, he is extinguishing the hope of Albanians.
"The DP needs a new vision, to reform and not to be used as a shield because of its problems with justice. It needs for this party not to be used for his and his family's personal interests, it needs to belong to the Democrats. Today Sali Berisha is a traitor to the Albanian nation. He has not only betrayed the Democrats but also the national interests. He puts his personal interest before everything. The damage that Berisha is doing today is not only to the Democrats, but to all Albanians. By holding the DP by force, by treating it as private property, he is extinguishing the hope of all Albanians and is giving Edi Rama the guarantee to win the next elections," said Balliu.
Balliu repeated the accusations that the Berisha family is enriching itself at the expense of the DP and that Berisha is using it in battles with internationals. She directly responded to Berisha's accusations of ties to the Socialist Party
"He accuses me and Salianji of having connections with the SP, when Rama's oligarchic friends are also friends of Shkëlzen Berisha. Today Sali Berisha must answer two questions: why is he 300,000 votes down from 2021 and why does he not respect the statute proposed by himself? Why is Berisha afraid of the race? Why does he not allow a different opinion? He has empty rhetoric and slanders in the absence of argument. Every democrat must understand today that with Sali Berisha you cannot win," she said.
Balliu also had an answer for Flamur Noka, whom she nicknamed 'Sali's Bob' or as she called him 'Berisha's useful idiot'.
"He reminds me of Saddam's spokesman, otherwise known as 'Ali the Comic', when American troops were entering Baghdad, Ali would go to press conferences and say that Iraq was winning. Noka is the same, who only slanders. Today I would describe him as 'Bobby Saliu', because the only thing he is doing is harming the DP. Noka is Berisha's useful idiot, a man who has not competed, a man who is afraid to even go to Kukës," she said.
