News24: The problem is not the media, it is Sali Berisha!

After paving the way for him to run alone in the internal elections, Sali Berisha has chosen to open another front, the one with the media. He accuses the screens of giving space to different voices within the Democratic Party, first mentioning Ervin Salianji and now Lulzim Basha. But the problem is not with the media reflecting a reality. The problem is with those who no longer accept that reality.
Because the facts are stubborn.
It was not the media that brought Lulzim Basha from the Netherlands. It was not the media that made him Minister of Transport, Minister of Foreign and Interior, or Mayor of Tirana. And above all, it was not the media that handed Basha the Democratic Party.
It was Sali Berisha himself!
He built, promoted and put Basha at the top, proclaiming him for years as the future of the right, even as the best prime minister the country would ever have. But the moment Basha made the decision to expel him from the parliamentary group, after declaring him "non grata", everything turned upside down. The same man who was yesterday's successor, turned into an enemy.
We recall that in his strongest political moments, Lulzim Basha has managed to mobilize protests and gather thousands of citizens. Today, this is a standard that Sali Berisha finds increasingly difficult to achieve. Once a call was enough to fill the squares, today participation remains limited.
The same scheme with Ervin Salianji. He was valuable when he faced elections and brought results in both Korça and Kavaja, he was valuable when he faced justice and was used as a political symbol, but as soon as he stepped out of line, he became a problem.
Essentially, Sali Berisha has no problem with Ervin Salianji as an individual nor with the fact that he appears on the screen of News24, because he appears on many of them. The real problem is with those media that have a wide audience and credibility with the public. Because precisely there, where the word has weight and reaches the citizens, every different voice becomes visible and indisputable.
Sali Berisha is suffering the consequences of his own decisions. By not allowing a real competition for the leadership of the party, even formally, he is avoiding the test. Why is this happening? Lack of trust in supporters, or paranoia that the situation could get out of control and something unexpected could happen? While being criticized for this, he chooses the familiar path – to accuse others of being to blame.
The turn has now come to the media. But with this accusation, Sali Berisha becomes completely unbelievable.
Because the same media that is being attacked today is the one that has given him daily space, without filters and without censorship. If there is a politician who cannot complain about the lack of television space, it is precisely Sali Berisha.
News24, BalkanWeb, Panorama and Gazeta Shqiptare have done the duty of a media outlet, they have reflected all voices, even when they are against each other. And for this very reason they have been under pressure and attacks, because they have refused to choose a side, but to stick to the facts.
Sali Berisha himself admits that the television he mentions "has good journalists". And this is true. But these good journalists have an equally serious publisher behind them, which guarantees editorial standards and independence. This publisher has not been and is not a hostage to anyone, neither Sali Berisha nor Edi Rama. It has not received favors or public work from anyone, so there is no reason to be indebted to anyone. It is precisely this independence that enables journalists to do their work with integrity and without compromise.
Attacking the media after having it as a tribune every day is not only contradictory. It is an attempt to intimidate and delegitimize it.
Sali Berisha's problem is that he leaves no room for different opinions. Any voice that goes outside his line is excluded. And when a party functions like this, it is no longer led, but controlled.
