Spahiu: In Western democracies, the party that loses the elections, not the one that wins, competes for the presidency.

Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu has stated that throughout the democratic world, elections for party leaders are held within the party that loses the elections and not within the one that wins.
Spahiu made the comments in a connection for the 'Frontline' show with journalist Marsela Karapanço on Report TV, where the May 23 'elections' for the chairman of the Democratic Party of Albania (DP) were discussed, where only Sali Berisha is in the race.
Spahiu emphasized that the party that wins the elections does not need to compete to elect the leader. This is because, according to him, the leader of the winning party has received the popular vote of confidence in the parliamentary elections and does not need to enter the competition within the party.
"There is a difference between the races in the SP and the DP. There has never been a race in the DP. Berisha has appointed people, just to keep the place and at a certain moment to remove them. There was a race in the SP. Fatos Nano, Ilir Meta, Pandeli Majko, Rexhep Mejdani, Edi Rama have competed in the SP. There have been high voices and profiles. We have listened to Ben Blushi for 4 years to put on a show, to make the opposition better than the opposition in the Assembly. First of all, you cannot compare the elections of the winner with the elections of the loser.
In all liberal democracies, in all European countries, the candidacy of the leader of the winning party who is the prime minister who leads the party is not in question. Elections are always a debate and discussion about the leader of the opposition, about the party that loses the elections. This is always the essence that regenerates in politics. It is never a challenge to the one who wins. Because the one who wins has received the votes of 1 million voters, has received the votes of the entire population. Because it is wrong to compare why Rama does not hold elections and why Berisha does not hold elections", said Spahiu, among other things.
We recall that in the May 23rd 'elections' for the leader of the Democratic Party, Berisha will be the only candidate, as several influential figures of the Democratic Party, such as Ervin Salianji, Alesia Balliu, Evi Kokalari, Vladimir Mulaj and Mereme Sela, were not allowed to run.
