Italian football under investigation, first referee testimony begins
"The charges brought against my client relate to the Salernitana-Modena case. I would like to clarify that if the investigators had investigated the case further, they would have known that the Serie A and Serie B buildings are separate, therefore Gervasoni could not have had any influence on the VAR decision-making process, as he was in the Serie A building, that is, on the other side."
This was stated by Michele Ducci, the lawyer representing Andrea Gervasoni, under investigation for collaboration in sports fraud by the Milan Prosecutor's Office.
This is the same file that led to Gianluca Rocchi's self-suspension from refereeing.
According to the lawyer, Gervasoni could not have influenced the VAR in Salernitana-Modena.
"Moreover, this action occurred in the space of 15 seconds, so in such a short time that Gervasoni could not have influenced in any way the decisions of the VAR room or the referee on the field. If there had been more witnesses to interview, it would have been entertaining to hear what they said, as the video analysis reveals nothing," he added.
He further adds that there was no investigation into the Inter Roma match. According to him, the news only circulated in the media and that the prosecutor himself did not conduct such proceedings.
The prosecution has already received from the court the right to postpone the investigations for another three months to reach conclusions later.
