The Miami Sprint Race became the scene of an intense battle between Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who finished third, and Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, sixth and penalized for not respecting the track limits. A challenge that Leclerc did not like at all, so much so that he exploded on the radio against his colleague: "Kimi is really terrible in wheel-to-wheel duels. He keeps moving during braking... we're going to crash!".
In fact, the two almost made contact, with Antonelli determined to regain the lead over Leclerc, who had passed him at the start. Charles exploded on the radio, irritated by Kimi's repeated movements during the braking phase, who was then penalized for violating the track limits. The duel calmed down in the second half of the Sprint, when the Ferrari driver gained a good safety margin over the Italian's Mercedes, which in the meantime ended up under attack from teammate Russell.
Although it is not the first time that Leclerc has accused the Italian driver of incorrect behavior on the track (it had happened last year in Brazil, when a contact with Piastri, caused precisely by Antonelli, had cost the Monegasque the podium), Charles later apologized for his words on the radio. "The message on the radio to Kimi? I think I was a little too harsh, but you know how it works with adrenaline in the car," he explained to Sky's microphones.
"It's true, there have been a few episodes with him and I hope things improve in the future, especially considering that he is the only Italian on the track and I drive a Ferrari. I would prefer that such things happen with other drivers, also because I really appreciate Kimi as a person. It's just that sometimes he is a bit too close to the limit when it's not necessary and, in this case, I got very angry. Although yes, my comment was probably a bit too harsh."
