Kosovo a decade in UEFA and FIFA, the unstoppable journey towards the big dream

This May, Kosovo marks an unforgettable moment in its history: the 10th anniversary of its membership in UEFA and FIFA. Two dates within the same month, with extraordinary historical weight. A jubilee that constitutes the cornerstone of the modern history of our football and an important chapter in the consolidation of Kosovo's statehood.
On 3 May 2016, at the Budapest Congress, an era of isolation ended and the doors of the European family were opened. Long sacrifices were transformed into pride, while hope took concrete form in the international football arena. Just ten days later, on 13 May 2016, at the FIFA Congress in Mexico City, Kosovo was also accepted into the world football family. At the first congress of current President Gianni Infantino, Kosovo was officially welcomed, sealing an irreversible historical moment.
Since then, our journey has been extraordinary. From 190th position in the FIFA rankings, Kosovo is now ranked 78th, a clear testament that when talent is given the opportunity, it flourishes and transforms into a national force.
Every step of this decade has been filled with emotions, challenges and achievements that have left their mark. The promotion to League B in the UEFA Nations League, the last qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup, where we secured the “play-off” in a very competitive group, the dignified confrontations with Switzerland, Sweden and Slovenia, as well as the historic victory over Slovakia in the semi-finals, showed that Kosovo is no longer a new name, but a serious reality in European football. Even though the final against Turkey did not end as we wished, the journey so far gives us unwavering confidence that qualifying for Euro 2028 is now a clear and achievable objective.
This progress is not limited to the A National Team. The women's national team is proving its potential in League C of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers, the U21 National Team is still competing for the European Championship, the futsal national team is in the "main round" of the World Cup, while the age group teams are growing with sure steps. Our clubs, especially Balkan and Drita, have raised the image of the Kosovo championship in Europe through historic successes in the UEFA Europa Conference League, proving that Kosovo football has begun to write new chapters at the club level as well.
Paralelisht me sukseset në aspektin sportiv, falë mbështetjes nga programet “UEFA HatTrick” dhe “FIFA Forward” infrastruktura e futbollit ka pësuar transformim të thellë. Kemi ndërtuar selinë moderne të FFK-së, stadiumi “Fadil Vokrri” është bërë me fushë hibride, Kampi Nacional në Hajvali po vjen gjithnjë duke u kompletuar, teksa fushat stërvitore po ndërtohen në të gjithë vendin çdo 45 ditë. Kemi investuar edhe në Kampin për të rinj në Obiliq dhe në Kampin Nacional në Leposaviq. Për 10 vjet kemi ndërtuar mbi 50 fusha futbolli, me bari natyral e artificial, duke krijuar një rrjet të gjerë zhvillimi për gjeneratat e reja.
Në këtë periudhë është avancuar edhe aspekti teknologjik dhe organizativ. Kemi implementuar sistemin VAR në ligën vendore, kemi realizuar projektin e katapultave dhe atë të defibrilatorëve për ruajtjen e shëndetit të futbollistëve, si dhe kemi bërë sigurimin shëndetësor për futbollistët. Përmes sistemit “MyFFK” është bërë digjitalizimi i garave dhe i Lidhjeve Rajonale të Futbollit, derisa tashmë kemi krijuar edhe teknikën dhe ekipin realizues të transmetimit të ndeshjeve, si dhe kemi filluar me “Podcast”, që i paraprinë projektit të FFK TV-së.
Po ashtu, Kosova është bërë vendi i parë në Ballkan që ka nisur me FIFA Akademinë e Futbollit, një projekt që hap horizonte të reja për edukimin dhe zhvillimin e gjeneratave të ardhshme. Kjo akademi nuk është vetëm një program trajnimi, por një garanci për një të ardhme të ndritur. Po ashtu, nga UEFA e FIFA kemi mbështetje edhe për Shkollën e Mesme të Futbollit. E të gjitha këto nuk janë thjesht projekte, por themelet e një futbolli të qëndrueshëm dhe konkurrues.
Rritja profesionale e administratës së FFK-së, avancimi i gjyqtarëve dhe edukimi i trajnerëve tanë, që së shpejti do të nisin edhe kurset për licencën UEFA Pro, garantojnë se futbolli ynë do të udhëhiqet nga profesionalizmi dhe standardet më të larta evropiane.
Ky 10-vjetor e gjen FFK-në më të fortë se kurrë, me një bazë të gjerë njerëzish që e mbajnë gjallë futbollin tonë:
•14.449 futbollistë e 643 futbolliste të regjistruara;
•1639 trajnerë, prej tyre 422 femra;
•434 gjyqtarë, prej tyre 49 femra;
•3 delegatë të ndeshjeve në UEFA;
•17 gjyqtarë me stemë të FIFA-s;
•1 vëzhgues të gjyqtarëve në UEFA;
•4 zyrtarë në Komisione të UEFA-s;
•3 zyrtarë në Komisione të FIFA-s;
•1 zyrtar të sigurisë të UEFA-s;
•1 zyrtar të UEFA-s për Antidoping;
•16 zyrtarë të FFK-së të diplomuar në akademitë e UEFA-s.
Këto shifra nuk janë thjesht numra, por dëshmi e gjallë e rritjes sonë të qëndrueshme.
Rëndësi të veçantë i kemi kushtuar gjithpërfshirjes, sepse futbolli është i bukur vetëm kur është i hapur për të gjithë. Përmes programit “Grassroots”, FFK organizon çdo vit projekte të shumta për fëmijë dhe komunitetin, ku çdo vit përfshihen rreth 8.000 fëmijë dhe mbi 1.000 trajnerë, mësimdhënës dhe staf përcjellës.
Por angazhimi ynë shkon edhe përtej, pasi futbolli është bërë hapësirë e barabartë edhe për persona me nevoja të veçanta.
Through activities dedicated to football for people with Down Syndrome, football for blind people, football for amputees and walking football, we have created real opportunities for everyone to feel the emotion of the game and be part of the big Kosovar football family. These initiatives are powerful proof that football is a tool for equality, solidarity and respect for diversity.
On this jubilee anniversary, we bow with respect to all those who kept the spirit of football alive in the most difficult days, who did not spare even their last cent, and who believed that one day Kosovo would be part of the European family.
We gratefully remember the contribution of the presidents of the FFK: Agim Bytyqi, Rexhep Abdullahu, Sabri Hashani and our immortal legend, Fadil Vokrri, but also all their collaborators over the decades.
Deep gratitude for the golden generation, for the generation of sacrifice and for all the generations that did not have the opportunity to showcase their talent in Europe, but who remained an inspiration for today's generations. Gratitude also for the club leaders, the 'Dardanët' fans, as well as for all the club fans who have always remained loyal to football since the time of occupation until today.
Under my leadership and that of the Executive Committee, FFK remains steadfast in consolidating football and achieving major objectives: qualifying for the European and World Championships. And to achieve this, we are aware that continuity in investments, further growth in professionalism and full respect for the long-term development strategy are required. But now is the time for the state to lend its decisive hand: to finalize the stadium projects launched in major cities and to begin work on the National Stadium as soon as possible. This project is more than necessary to prove our maturity as a society and to offer the Dardanians a dignified home.
Congratulations on the 10th anniversary of membership in UEFA and FIFA to the entire football community and citizens of Kosovo.
This is a shared jubilee, of our sacrifice and pride.
