German prisoner dies after being attacked by an Albanian in his detention cell

A German prisoner who was attacked by another prisoner of Albanian origin has died.

Almost a year and a half later, the victim of the attack died on May 2, and his death has raised suspicions from German authorities.

German media  write that in December 2024, the Albanian prisoner attacked the 46-year-old German in his detention cell.

Other prisoners found the injured man and called staff to provide him with the necessary medical assistance. The 46-year-old was then taken to hospital.

According to information, he has been receiving hospital treatment since then and died on May 2. The suspect in this incident is a 43-year-old Albanian man, who has been charged by the Regensburg public prosecutor's office with attempted murder.

German authorities are investigating whether the attack a year and a half ago is the cause of the 46-year-old German's death.
