Air Albania deceives passengers, takes money and cancels flights!

In March of this year, the show "Piranjat" documented with facts how the airline Air Albania, promoted as the Albanian pride of the skies, was heading towards complete failure. Today, unfortunately, the consequences of this situation are directly suffering the passengers, who have been left in the middle of the road.

Several travelers have told "Piranhas" that their flights were canceled at the last minute, without any explanation or real alternative.

" I booked a ticket for my parents from Tirana to Malpensa, for November 30. That same day they sent me an email that the flight had been canceled and offered me another one for December 3. My parents headed to the airport, but about two hours before departure I received another email that the flight had been canceled again. We were forced to wait for a ticket with another company to arrive the next day," Ermir Kastrati recounts.

Another passenger, who lives in Italy, tells a similar story: “ We had a memorial service and they booked our tickets four or five months in advance, because in June it is difficult to find seats, especially at Malpensa. We suddenly found ourselves at the airport with no information, no communication, zero. Their answer was: if you want, you can travel on Sunday, returning in two or three days. My daughter told them that we had a concrete reason for the trip. Then they promised us a refund. We called and emailed several times, but the answer is always the same: 'we will refund you.'”

While passengers have been waiting for months for their money to be refunded, according to the rules, the company should have provided a response within three weeks and then the matter should have been referred to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for mediation.

But the situation is even more serious. As of December 3, 2025, the Civil Aviation Authority has decided to suspend the operating license of the airline Air Albania, as a result of the suspension of the air operator certificate. This means a ban on flights, suspension of ticket sales and an obligation to meet the conditions for lifting the suspension.

However, despite this decision, Air Albania continues to sell tickets without any hindrance. This fact was confirmed by a customer service operator during a telephone conversation. The financial crisis and the risk of bankruptcy have not only affected passengers, but also the company's employees.

An Air Albania employee tells "Piranjat" the dire financial situation within the company.  "We are all in a situation where we have three months of unpaid salaries. Social security has not been paid since July 2024. We work overtime that is not calculated anywhere, even though they are signed by the heads of departments. It is all a matter of management. As long as you take on flights without having a real analysis of costs and profits, this is the result ," she says.

The situation worsened further on December 9, 2025, when bailiff Dionis Mekshaj imposed a seizure on Air Albania's assets after the company lost a lawsuit against its former director of ground operations, Engjeljan Radovani. This means that all of the company's assets and economic resources are currently frozen.

"Piranjat" journalists also went to the offices of Air Albania to request information, but they were closed. Meanwhile, Sinan Idrizi, one of the company's main shareholders, did not give any concrete answers regarding the sale of tickets, the suspension of flights and the failure to provide refunds to passengers./ Piranjat
