Trump warns: We may send the military to Chicago and New York

United States President Donald Trump has openly threatened Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, telling her that she "has to get through this" or she will not last long in office.

At a press conference held in the Oval Office, Trump also stated that he plans to send the military to other Democratic-controlled cities, including Chicago and New York.

“It was dangerous in Washington,” he said. “It was terrible, and Mayor Bowser better get her act together or she won’t be mayor much longer, because we have a commitment with the federal government to run the city properly.”

Last week, Trump claimed that crime in the federal capital was out of control and ordered the deployment of the National Guard and federal agents to the city's streets.

Today, he warned that he will expand the anti-crime operation to other cities.

“Chicago is a mess. It will probably be the next city that we make safe, then we will help New York,” Trump said. “When we are ready, we will start with Chicago. Maybe we will clean up San Francisco,” he added.

Meanwhile, a Defense Department official announced today that National Guard members deployed in Washington will be equipped with firearms "soon."

"By order of the Minister of Defense, members of the National Guard, in their mission to reduce crime in our capital, will soon be on armed duty," said the official, who asked to remain anonymous.

The situation in several major American cities has further strained the clashes between the Trump administration and local authorities led by Democrats, on the eve of the election campaign.
