Bashtovo Castle reopens on August 29 after restoration

The Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, announced today that Bashtova Castle will reopen to visitors on August 29, following restoration work carried out as a result of damage caused by the 2019 earthquake.
"Once almost forgotten and severely damaged by the 2019 earthquake, Bashtova Castle is coming back to life thanks to the support of the European Union and the EU4Culture program, implemented by UNOPS," Gonxha reports.
The reopening ceremony will take place on August 29, at 4:00 PM, where visitors will have the opportunity to witness the transformation of this historical monument up close.
Bashtova Castle is a quadrangular medieval castle located in the fertile plain near the mouth of the Shkumbin River, facing the Adriatic Sea in central Albania, approximately 2 km from the village of Vilë Ballaj.
In the Middle Ages, this area was an important port for the grain trade and part of the historic Via Egnatia road, which connected the coast with the interior parts of the Balkan Peninsula.
In 2017, Bashtova Castle was included in UNESCO's tentative list of World Heritage Sites, due to its unique location and historical significance.
