A distinguished intellectual and an unparalleled erudite, with a unique cultural formation that could not be expected except from the only son of Petro Zheji, life granted Artur a rich and unique experience for his generation, erasing any deprivation common to his peers raised behind the Iron Curtain and all-round isolation. Yet inside him, Turi always kept alive the abandoned boy of Tirana, a warrior and a sharp-tongued man.
With the depth of a playwright and the sharpness of a political mind, with pure patriotism and sharp cosmopolitan sarcasm, Zheji always provoked an extraordinary sense of intellectual and spiritual well-being which, now that he is no longer among us, we can only preserve as a precious memory.
The fate of the nation was always at the heart of Zheji's uncompromising and courageous public life and journalism. Albania and Albanianness are more united today than yesterday.
My thoughts and prayers, and those of Aurela, go first to Claude, Turi's tireless traveling companion, and to his children, Besiana, Patrick, and Geri. Family was the great love of Turi's life.
