The truth behind Dan Rivera's death: "Annabelle" was not in his

Despite rumors on social media, the famous "possessed" doll Annabelle was not in the hotel room where paranormal investigator Dan Rivera lost his life.

The news was confirmed by Adams County Coroner Francis Dutrow, who told PEOPLE that when he arrived at the scene on July 13, there was no such doll in the room. He also added that Annabelle was not in that room at all.

Rivera, 54, was one of the principal investigators for the New England Society for Psychic Research and was in Gettysburg as part of the “Devils on the Run” tour. He had stated that he was not feeling well and had returned to his room, where he was later found dead by hotel staff.

Pennsylvania police announced that there was nothing suspicious at the scene, while the exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy, which is expected to take about 8-10 weeks.

Annabelle has become known through horror films and numerous stories, which, according to the association, date back to 1968.
