Africa is splitting in two: The great rift will create a new ocean

Africa is currently the scene of one of the most magnificent geological transformations taking place on the planet. During the Great East African Rift, a huge rift is gradually widening through Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania, heralding a slow but inevitable breakup of the continent.
Although the plate movement is only a few centimeters per year, scientists warn that this area will become a new ocean, reshaping coastlines, opening new marine corridors and changing ecosystems and the way people live.
The tectonic process will cause the eastern part of Africa, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and Madagascar, to break away from the rest of the continent. It will form a new land mass surrounded by water, a development that will transform not only the geography but also the destinies of the peoples who live there.
This transformation will have numerous consequences:

• Geothermal resources and mineral wealth will offer new economic opportunities.

The phenomenon of the Great African Rift reminds us that the Earth is never static. Its surface is in constant motion and over millions of years it has the ability to reshape continents, oceans, and life on them.
In this sense, Africa is today the most vivid proof of the fact that our planet is a living body, always changing and always creating a new reality.
