The situation is getting worse! The UN confirms for the first time the famine in

A famine has been confirmed for the first time in Gaza City and the surrounding area, a UN-backed body responsible for monitoring food security has said.

More than 500,000 people in the Gaza Strip are facing "hunger, misery and death."

The body adds that "catastrophic conditions" are expected to expand to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis by the end of September.

The 59-page report, published minutes ago, says there should be "no doubt in anyone's mind that an immediate and large-scale response is needed."

" Any further delay, even for days, will result in a completely unacceptable escalation of hunger-related mortality ," the report adds.

Israel's Foreign Ministry rejects the report, saying "there is no famine in Gaza."

This comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his cabinet has approved plans for a new attack on Gaza City.

The IDF has warned medical workers and international organizations to prepare for the planned evacuation of the city's one million residents to shelters in the south.
