Reuters reveals Putin's three conditions for Ukraine: Give up Donbass, No to NATO, if there is no peace there will be more war

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on Ukraine to surrender the entire Donbas region, abandon its aspirations to join NATO, maintain neutral status and not allow Western troops on its territory, Reuters reported, citing three sources close to the Kremlin.
Putin and US President Donald Trump met in Alaska on Friday for the first Russia-US summit in more than four years. The three-hour meeting, held behind closed doors, was focused almost entirely on discussing a possible compromise on Ukraine, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity. After the talks, Putin told Trump that the summit “could pave the way for peace,” but gave no specifics.
Russian sources said Putin has softened the demands compared to June 2024, when he demanded the handover of four regions partially occupied by Russia - Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
In the new proposal, he insists only on the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the parts of Donbas still controlled by Kiev, while the current front lines in the south would remain unchanged. In exchange, Russia would withdraw from several smaller areas it controls in the Kharkiv, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Russia currently controls about a fifth of Ukrainian territory, including 88% of Donbas and over 70% of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
Kiev rejects them, considering them a surrender.
Putin is also sticking to his previous demands that Ukraine abandon its aspirations to join NATO, as well as get a legally binding commitment from the U.S.-led military alliance not to expand further east. He is also seeking limits on the Ukrainian military and an agreement that no Western troops be deployed on the ground in Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping force, the sources said.
However, the sides remain far from an agreement, more than three years after Putin ordered thousands of Russian troops to Ukraine, following the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014 and ongoing fighting in the east between Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian forces.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry did not immediately comment on these proposals.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has again rejected the idea of withdrawing from land internationally recognized as Ukrainian as part of a deal, stressing that the industrial region of Donbass functions as a " fortress" that prevents deeper Russian advances inside Ukraine.

Trump: “Putin dëshiron ta mbyllë luftën”

Security guarantees for Ukraine
Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, played a key role in paving the way for the summit and the latest peace initiative, according to two Russian sources.
Witkoff met with Putin in the Kremlin on August 6, along with Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov. At the meeting, Putin made it clear to Witkoff that he was willing to compromise and set the limits of what he would accept for peace, the two Russian sources said.
If Russia and Ukraine reach an agreement, there are several options for a formal agreement – including the possibility of a trilateral Russia-Ukraine-US agreement, recognized by the UN Security Council, according to one source.
Another option is to return to the failed Istanbul agreements of 2022, where Russia and Ukraine discussed Ukraine's permanent neutrality in exchange for security guarantees from the five permanent members of the UN Security Council: Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States.
