Italian television in mourning! Screen icon passes away at 89

Italian television legend Giuseppe Vittorio Raimondo "Pippo" Baudo has passed away at the age of 89.

The news has shocked the world of Italian media and entertainment, where he had been known for decades as an iconic figure, often called the "king of television."

Born on June 7, 1936, his television career spanned over six decades, making him one of the most beloved and respected personalities in Italy. Pippo Baudo was not only a presenter, but also the artistic director and president of the Teatro Stabile di Catania, leaving his mark on the theater scene as well.

In the 1970s he contributed to the founding of the private channel "Antenna Sicilia". After some controversy with the president of RAI, Enrico Manca, in 1987 he spent a period at Mediaset, where he presented the show "Festival". However, his return to RAI paved the way for successive successes, among them the programs "Gran Premio" and "Serata d'Onore".

One of the most memorable moments in his career occurred during the opening of the Sanremo Festival in 1995, when a man threatened to throw himself from the gallery. It was Baudo himself who managed to stop him, earning applause from the entire audience.

In the years that followed, he presented a series of programs, including “Novecento”, “Sabato Italiano”, and for years the famous show “Domenica In”. But above all, Pippo Baudo will be remembered for his extraordinary record: he hosted 13 editions of the Sanremo Festival, surpassing even his friend Mike Bongiorno, who had hosted it 11 times.

With his passing, Italy lost a symbolic figure of popular culture and television, while his memory remains closely linked to some of the most unforgettable moments of Italian entertainment.
