VIDEO/ Panic at Milan airport/ A person set fire to a garbage bin, the area is engulfed in flames

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, chaos erupted at Terminal 1 of Milan's Malpensa Airport when a person set fire to a trash can.

According to Italian media, airport authorities rushed to the scene, where they discovered that he had thrown a fuel canister at it and had also caused damage with a hammer.

The area was engulfed in flames, but the fire was quickly brought under control thanks to the immediate intervention of the airport firefighters.

The area was immediately surrounded by security forces, while, as announced by the fire department, the presence of smoke necessitated the temporary evacuation of the terminal for precautionary reasons.

The area was subsequently cleared and security restored, resulting in the airport continuing to operate without serious disruption to flights.
