From historic leader to historic burden/ Berisha's electoral disaster, 13 mandates less than Basha

Sali Berisha appears before journalists every day, trying to fill with his personal propaganda the vacuum left by the massive boycott of citizens against his political offer. In a simple comparison of numbers: in the 2025 elections, not counting allies, Berisha received 13 fewer mandates than Lulzim Basha in 2021, when the difference between the majority and the opposition was only about 30 thousand votes.
Berisha is trying to cover up this electoral disaster with attacks on anyone who demands accountability, blaming everyone but himself, and avoiding any personal responsibility.
Berisha attacked the DP led by Basha after the US declared him “non grata”, with promises that with his return, Edi Rama would be overthrown in 6 months, the Democratic Party would be democratized and the vote would be protected at all costs.
Four years later, the only thing left of the “Foltoresa” promises is the electoral pit into which he has driven the party, once the second political force, today wrinkled and paralyzed. And this happens only four years after the DP, under Basha’s leadership, was close to victory, a victory that was thwarted by an electoral massacre later proven by the SPAK investigations into the Çyrbja affair, as well as by the OSCE/ODIHR report, which concluded that the ruling party had become one with the state.
However, even in the face of this massacre, without the LSI on the electoral list and with a state completely against it, Basha achieved a result that will take a long time to recover from. Because the blow that Berisha dealt to the DP for personal interests has transformed it into a small, closed and controlled party, with a parliamentary group that represents more the interests of Berisha's self-defense than the aspirations for change of the Democrats.
These are the reasons why Berisha continues to attack Lulzim Basha in successive media appearances, because he cannot face his election results.
Berisha claims that he is defending the vote, but in reality he only produces media headlines. In fact, in 2021, the DP led by Basha had filed 186 criminal charges for election manipulation, had submitted all the evidence of manipulation to Western chancelleries and as a result had received support for the establishment of the Parliamentary Investigative Commission for the election massacre, a process that was sabotaged by Edi Rama, taking advantage of the noise of Berisha's "Pulpit".
Today, Berisha accuses Basha of not defending the vote after April 25, but forgets that he himself relativized the DP's loss to attack Basha, saying that "the DP had lost the elections", only to advance his personal agenda and take control of the party.
In fact, Berisha was one of the main obstacles that extinguished the opposition's post-election action: just a few weeks after April 25, 2021, what dominated the public discourse was no longer the electoral manipulation, but its sanctioning by the US. With this, Berisha superimposed his personal problems on the opposition's agenda and gave Rama the opportunity to hide behind the "Berisha problem" to avoid accountability for electoral crimes.
Berisha is also trying to use the internal competition within the DP, which followed the elections, to hit Basha. But this competition proved that Basha's DP was a force with diversity of thought and democratic vitality, the complete opposite of what it is today: a destroyed and breathless structure, turned into a bunker for Berisha's personal interests.
The words of the former historic leader, who has today become a historical burden for the Democrats, have become worthless, especially when he himself declared that "it was lucky that the DP did not win in 2021" and has continuously collaborated with Edi Rama, making him the longest-serving prime minister in history and himself his greatest guarantee for maintaining power.
