New medical prescription comes into effect, more safety for patients, pharmacist abuses avoided

As of August 1, a new medical prescription has come into effect throughout the health and private system. With the new format, doctors will have the opportunity to issue a medical prescription for up to 6 months, in cases where the patient will need long-term treatment, further facilitating the discharge of chronically ill patients.
In addition to the brand, doctors are also required to write the name of the medication, to avoid possible abuse by pharmacists, thus further increasing patient safety.
Pharmacists also have the right to partially execute the prescription. In cases where the prescribed medicines are not available in full, the pharmacist will have to record the medicines he has given to the patients, the quantity received and the date, signing and stamping it. With the new document, the patient can get the missing medicine at another pharmacy. The pharmacy must keep a copy of this prescription. No medicine that is registered in the National Medicines Registry can be given without a prescription by pharmacists.
In a reaction on social media today, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the medical prescription is being implemented throughout the country, describing this as a step forward in improving the healthcare system.
The head of government further emphasized that this new prescription format further increases safety for patients and eliminates bureaucracy for doctors and pharmacists.
