Pilgrimage to Mount Tomorri begins, plan of measures for traffic management

The pilgrimage to Mount Tomorri begins, a pilgrimage that annually gathers over 600 thousand pilgrims from Albania, the diaspora and the whole world. DVP Berat, with a plan of measures, provides the route for the movement of vehicles and restrictions.

The Great Bektashi Pilgrimage to Mount Tomorri began yesterday, a pilgrimage that will continue for a week in a row. In order to avoid problems related to this major organization, the Berat Police Department has undertaken a detailed plan of measures. The Berat Police, in cooperation with the Berat, Kuçovë and Skrapar Police Stations, are committed to ensuring public order and safety, preventing crime and increasing road safety and ensuring the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians, before, during and after the pilgrimage to "Mount Tomorri", a pilgrimage that will take place during the period 18-25 August 2025.

In implementation of this plan of measures, additional services have been planned on all road axes leading to Mount Tomorri as well as in the outdoor areas of the religious building (Tekke) on this mountain.

The tasks planned in this plan of measures will be carried out by the services of the DVP Berat, in cooperation with the Fier National Police, the Operational Unit for Road Safety, the Fire Department, the Berat Regional Hospital, local government bodies and the World Bektashi Patriarchate. All details of the plan of measures were announced in a communication to the media by the DVP Berat, which also explained the route of vehicle movement during the ascent and descent from the mountain, as well as the traffic restrictions.

-The itinerary for drivers heading towards Mount Tomorri (towards the tekke) will be: "Entrance to the city of Berat.

-Combinat roundabout–City ring road–Uznova roundabout–Plirëz intersection–Kulmak Tekke”.

-The routes for drivers returning from Mount Tomorri (from the tekke) will be:
“Kulmak Tekke -Bargullaz-Pronovik-Poliçan-Uznovë-Main Road “Antipatrea” -Combine Roundabout”.

-Drivers and pilgrims coming from the city of Çorovodë are advised to use the Çorovodë-Gjerbës-Kulmakut Tekeja road axis and vice versa.

-For vehicles: On the road axes "Vlashuk Kuçovë-Berat", "Ura Kuçit–Dimal-Berat", "Pobrat-Dimal-Berat", "Berat-Mali i Tomorrit", "Berat-Çorovodë" and "Çorovodë-Gjerbës-Mali i Tomorrit", heavy tonnage vehicles will not be allowed to circulate, from 06:00 to 24:00, throughout the days of the pilgrimage.

-Buses, vans with over 8 people and minibuses will not be allowed to circulate on the road axis "Plirëz–Teqeja e Kulmakut–Mali i Tomorrit".

-Due to the road parameters, on the "Plirëz-Teqeja e Kulmakut" road segment, vehicle traffic will be carried out in columns and overtaking will not be allowed.

-Also, parking and stopping of vehicles on road axes is prohibited and drivers must follow the instructions of Police officers regarding the places where parking and stopping of vehicles will be permitted.

The Tomorri Mountain is occupied during the 7-day pilgrimage by about 600 thousand pilgrims from Albania, the Diaspora and the whole world, who travel to the Kulmak Tekke to celebrate the feast of Baba Tomorri, under the religious rhythms of the Bektashis, regardless of the religious beliefs they belong to. The believers set up their tents in this holy place, performing not only the feast's sacrifice, but also climbing the peak of the Tomorri Mountain, which is located 2416 meters above sea level.
The first to settle on the holy mountain of the Bektashis were the shepherds of the villages of Skrapar, who offer the pilgrims the sacrificial animals of the "lambs", which are the personification of this special holiday. The Kulmak Tekke was prepared and opened its doors a few days ago to welcome the pilgrims who will be part of this holiday, and all measures have been taken so that the Tomorri mountain does not lack tents for pilgrims, bathrooms, lighting and drinking water. During the 7-day pilgrimage, the religious rites of the holiday are performed in the Kulmak Tekke and near the tomb of Abaz Ali, where each pilgrim prays for health, goodness and peace in their families. All believers and pilgrims who join this holy holiday, as a sign of kindness, make a sacrificial animal for themselves and their families.
