Lapaj, Shabani, Qorri, Shehaj and a lecture by Peppe Grillo

The fierce battle for the sole mandate of the "Albania Initiative", between Endri Shabani's uncle or Adriatik Lapaj's "aunt", has destroyed the little hope that had begun to arise that the new political forces appearing as popular movements would remove some brick from the two-party system installed in Albania. These new forces, which tried to appear sometimes as left-wing populists, sometimes as nationalists, or center-right liberals, who at the beginning of their lives clashed not with the big parties, but with each other. But none of Lapaj's accusations as a left-wing populist against Shehaj as a right-wing liberal, nor the complaints of Ardil Qorri's Party, which appears mostly as a modern communist, damaged the hopes that at least one new political force outside the political establishment would enter between the SP and the DP to disrupt their balance a little and why not the other elections to bring about a different rotation.
I never thought that this could happen to these new parties because of the pampered behavior from one studio to another, complaining live that they are not given a voice, but never on the ground with all their might.
The last battle for a deputy seat between Zeqir and Ana, trivialized so badly every new political movement in Albania that it seems difficult for anyone to take any of these parties seriously after this comedy. The new parties sought to damage the system but damaged themselves by postponing for some time the emergence of serious new forces that could take away the opportunity for the bigger ones to set the rules of the game. These parties, at the start, complained about the electoral system used by Albania in parliamentary elections. But when it comes to local elections, where voting is purely majoritarian, none of these parties becomes a serious threat. Even they themselves, knowing that they will not win anything, campaign as losers.

Meqenëse Giorgia Meloni tashmë s’mund të quhet më politikane e re dhe nuk është aspak e majtë, do sugjeroj që lëvizjet e majta shqiptare të paktën të mësojnë diçka nga suksesi i jashtëzakonshëm i Peppe Grillo, komediani që u bë politikan dhe që asnjëherë nuk mori mandat deputeti apo post në qeveri, edhe pse krijoi një lëvizje politike që fitoi zgjedhjet në Itali e para disa viteve.

Beppe Grillo, ish humorist i njohur për ironinë e tij therëse kundër politikës, u kthye në një nga figurat më të rëndësishme të politikës duke themeluar një nga lëvizjet më të pazakonta dhe të suksesshmet: Movimento 5 Stelle (Lëvizja 5 Yjet). On 4 October 2009, in the city of Florence, Grillo and his collaborator Gianroberto Casaleggio officially announced the founding of the movement. The name and symbolism of the five stars represented five programmatic pillars: clean water, the environment, public transport, sustainable development and alternative energy. In the following years, the M5S began to challenge traditional parties in local and regional elections. The peak came in the 2013 parliamentary elections, when the Movement became the second most voted force in Italy, with over 25% of the vote. The success continued, and in 2018, the M5S won a relative majority and governed Italy in coalition with the Lega Nord.
What made this movement special was its form of organization. Without a classic party structure, without a physical headquarters, without a traditional leader, M5S operated as a digital community, where citizens could propose, vote and influence decision-making through the online platform “Rousseau”, built by the company Casaleggio Associati. Today, after more than a decade, the 5 Star Movement has been significantly transformed. Grillo’s figure has partially withdrawn, he has never held political office, while many of his former promises have clashed with the reality of governance. However, its impact on Italian and European politics remains undeniable: a simple citizen, through humor and technology, managed to upset the establishment and change the rules of the game.
