The 20-20-20 method, the simple solution against screen eye strain

In an age where we spend hours in front of screens, from computers to phones, digital eye strain has become a daily concern for many people. Burning, dry eyes, headaches, and blurred vision are just some of the symptoms that indicate that our eyes need a well-deserved rest.
Experts recommend a simple and effective solution: the 20-20-20 method.
This technique consists of taking a short break every 20 minutes, where for 20 seconds you have to focus on an object that is about 6 meters away (so 20 feet – hence the name). This distance helps relax the eye muscles and prevents them from tiring.
According to Professor Daniela Oehring from the University of Plymouth, this method also helps reduce eye dryness and maintain visual focus throughout the day. She points out that such a small practice can have a big impact on our daily health.
Digital eye strain is not an exaggerated term. In fact, various studies have shown that people in front of screens often forget to even blink, which worsens dryness and tension in the eye area.
To turn this exercise into a pleasant ritual during work, experts suggest looking at a beautiful object – like a flower, a view out the window or even the sky. For a more relaxing experience, you can accompany it with a cup of tea and some soft music.
Some other tips to protect eye health in the workplace include:
Placing the screen at an arm's length and slightly below eye level.
Providing soft, warm lighting.
Using humidifiers or air purifiers to improve the quality of the environment.
A comfortable chair that protects the spine and helps maintain proper posture.
It is not necessary to turn off the phone or give up social networks. It is enough to be aware of your eyes and give them the breaks they deserve. Because beyond every screen there is a world waiting to be seen with our healthy eyes.
