"Palace 176"/ Artists remember how they made it, the comedy that broke

The comedy "Palace 176" was screened at the State Archives' summer cinema. Some of the actors who performed in one of the most successful artistic productions in the country were present.

Staged more than 450 times, the comedy "Palace 176" began as a diploma work of a student at the Academy of Arts. While it highlights phenomena of the 1980s and family relationships, judgments and prejudices, and communication difficulties, the play seems to have been successful also because of the simple jokes that could come quite naturally from a cast of well-known actors such as Violeta Manushi or Roland Trebicka, who carry great weight in the play.

Today, when some of them are no longer there, their colleagues remember them with respect, while the comedy was shown at the summer cinema of the State Archives.

"Extraordinary respect for our colleagues who, with great love and dedication, staged that simple part, both from the directors and my colleagues. Today, there are only a few left, it's me, the boy's mother, the boy and the bride. I'm glad that the years have passed and 'Palace 176' remains in your attention. We have given you emotions, but it is you who have made it equally successful with your support," said the famous actress, Elida Janushi.

One of the reasons why the play seemed to find a wider audience was its simplicity and avoidance of the political messages that dominated the art of the time. The audience, apparently, was eager for a play without the tiresome presence of the party, Enver, and the committee's directives.

"When we were working on 'Palace 176', Ilir Bezhani told me that this would be a show that would fill the theater. At the time, I thought he was exaggerating, but today I know that not only was he right, but this exceeded everyone's expectations. It has become a cult. They still call me Elsa and I feel good because I know they connect me with the character," said Alikaj.

The play "Palace 176" by author Adelina Balashin brings a wide range of characters who come from all walks of life.
