The Albanian-American community has sent a letter to the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump.

In a letter sent to the White House chief of staff, "Albanians for America" stated that mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia is the only solution for achieving lasting peace.

The letter further states that this idea was strongly supported by Trump during his first term.

It also mentions the US president's attempt to prevent a war in the region.

“We express our full support for the recent bipartisan calls for the immediate implementation of mutual recognition as the only solution to achieving lasting peace in this important part of Europe. This is a goal that you have supported on several occasions, including through your recent efforts to stop Serbia’s continued hostilities and prevent a renewed war in the region. It is also a goal that aligns directly with U.S. strategic interests,” the letter states.

The Albanian American community, among other things, expresses concern about the extension of the status quo, which according to them is essentially destabilizing.

"Serbia's continued refusal to align with America's foreign policy and recognize Kosovo's sovereignty has encouraged repeated escalations, most notably acts of aggression by Serbia in 2023 and 2024, as well as recent attempts at escalation that you successfully prevented."

Albanian associations express gratitude for the United States' commitment to the liberation and independence of Kosovo.

They emphasize that Kosovo's independence is a clear American victory.

“The people of Kosovo endured decades of systemic oppression, culminating in genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed by the Milosevic regime. The international community, led by the US, intervened to prevent the disappearance of an entire population. Kosovo’s statehood is a product of historical legitimacy and humanitarian necessity.”

“Kosovo stands as the most pro-American nation in the world, as evidenced by the fact that it is the only European country to have reached an agreement with the US for third-country nationals and the first country globally to propose a zero tariff on US goods – a decision that took effect last week. Its unwavering support for American leadership, its values of freedom, and its global partnerships are unmatched. Kosovo has a vital US/NATO military presence and has consistently aligned with US foreign policy objectives.”

But, it does not leave aside the destructive role of Serbia and the dangers it could bring.

"In contrast, Serbia continues to strengthen alliances with America's adversaries, particularly Russia, China, and Iran, thereby undermining efforts for cohesive regional cooperation and threatening US interests."

Among other things, the Albanian-American community expresses gratitude for Trump's leadership, which was crucial in achieving the 2020 Washington Agreement.

But Serbia has failed to implement it by violating it.

"Unfortunately, Serbia has violated most of its critical components and failed to implement it. Today, you are in a unique position to ensure that the normalization process between Kosovo and Serbia reaches its legitimate conclusion: mutual recognition within existing borders."

We respectfully urge you to:

Publicly reaffirm U.S. support for mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia as a foundation for lasting peace. Encourage both countries to finalize recognition and engage in cooperation based on the principle of normalization of relations between the two countries.
Support strong implementation mechanisms to ensure full and timely implementation.

"The Albanian-American community, just as we have supported your return to the White House, stands ready to support any effort that leads this long impasse to a final resolution. Thank you for your continued commitment to peace through strength and for your leadership on this important issue," the letter sent by the Albanian Associations in America states, KlanKosova writes.
