Council of Europe condemns police blockade of News24: Act violates media freedom

The Council of Europe, through the Freedom of Media (FOM) platform, has reacted with concern to the situation created with News24 television, describing the police blockade and detention of journalists as an action contrary to the Court's decision and European standards for press freedom.
In the official statement published on the FOM platform, the Council of Europe states that it has taken into consideration the report of the Association of Journalists of Albania (AGSH), regarding the blocking of the News24 broadcast signal, the denial of journalists' entry into the premises of the building surrounded by military police, and the prohibition to withdraw work equipment, computers and personal documents, despite a decision of the Tirana Court guaranteeing them this right.
'This action constitutes a serious violation of media freedom and directly harms the right of journalists to practice their profession,' the FOM statement said.
In addition to the Council of Europe, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) and its Secretary General Ricardo Gutiérrez have also expressed full support for the AGSH and its leader, Armand Myzyraj, in their efforts to document the case and raise international awareness.
'This stance by AGSH reaffirms its commitment to helping journalists and encouraging the protection of press freedom,' the FOM platform further emphasizes.
