Politicians can stay quiet for a while longer about SPAK.
At least those who do not dream of becoming ministers. Good news comes from the Special Prosecution Office, where, usually, they are used to hearing accusations of corruption, money laundering, violations in tenders and obstruction of justice - charges that were officially filed this year against four of them, specifically against Ilir Mete, Erjon Velise, Monika Kryemadhi and Klotilda Bushka.
Two other former Prime Ministers, Sali Berisha and Fatmir Mediu, have previously been handed over to the court as defendants. Meanwhile, of the 140 deputies mandated to the Albanian Parliament after May 11, SPAK has not registered any of them as persons under investigation.
This response came from SPAK, after it sent the names of the MPs declared winners by the CEC. Due to the many public accusations from all sides, raised especially before the elections, the question was direct: Are there any MPs under investigation? SPAK's response was not so direct, but, for now, sufficiently satisfactory for old and new politicians, in the majority and in the opposition.
"The names included in the lists sent have not yet been registered as persons under investigation in the criminal offense notification register of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime ," says SPAK.
Top Channel consulted criminal experts about the indirect response of SPAK, which does not confirm whether anyone is under investigation, but emphasizes that officially the 140 names are not registered as names under investigation. Experts say that SPAK's practice so far has shown that the Special Prosecution Office registers a case without a specific name, collects evidence about it and then, as soon as it registers the name in the criminal offense notification register, not far from this action, it files charges, even against a politician.
So far, as SPAK likes to point out, there is no criminal record for any of the 140 elected deputies. Which means that socialist deputies, for now, can wait with less stress for the new composition of the government cabinet, the sharing of power in the fourth mandate and the progress of their careers in the party. While opposition deputies can calmly plan their strategy against the 2025-2029 government.
