Robbie Williams: Giving children cell phones is abuse, it's like giving them drugs

Robbie Williams has chosen to take a strong stance against the use of mobile phones by children, comparing giving them to a form of abuse.
In an interview with ITV News , the British singer and father of four said he doesn't plan on giving his children cell phones for as long as possible. He said:
“They don't have phones. They won't have phones for as long as humanly possible. And you know, they'll say, 'I'm at school, everyone else has a phone, why shouldn't I?' I say sternly. It's that simple.”
Williams added that he himself finds it difficult to cope with the pressure and influence that comes from the internet:
"I'm 51 years old, I can't stand the corrosive nature of the internet and other things. It hurts me. It ruins my day..."
In a strong statement, he compared technological devices to hazardous substances:
“How can I give this medicine to a twelve-year-old child? How can I give this medicine to a seven-year-old child? It's abuse.”
Robbie and his wife, Ayda Field, are parents to four children: Theodora “Teddy” Rose, Charlton “Charlie” Valentine, Colette “Coco” Josephine, and Beau Benedict Enthoven. They have chosen to keep their children out of the public eye, with the exception of Teddy, who appeared at Princess Eugenie's wedding in 2018.
The singer kicked off his "Britpop" tour in May, in support of his self-titled album, which is due for release on October 10.
