Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia pleads guilty to inciting discord

Today, the Basic Court of Pristina announced the verdict against the assistant director of the so-called Office for Kosovo in the Serbian government, Igor Popovic.
Popovic has pleaded guilty to the criminal offense of inciting discord and intolerance. According to the indictment, he gave a public speech in which he used inflammatory and hateful language, emphasizing, among other things, that Serbs in the region of Rahovec and Metohija are victims of injustice because they are locals and do not accept being called occupiers or newcomers by the KLA, an organization declared a terrorist by Serbia. Popovic also called for Velika Hoca and Rahovec to remain Serbian areas.
The prosecution has requested that Popovic be sentenced to six months in prison for this action, which sentence should be replaced by a fine of 3,000 euros. The prosecution has also proposed his expulsion from Kosovo for two years and the termination of the pre-trial detention measure.
