"Injustice towards KLA fighters" / Protests against the Special Court

Protests have begun in Pristina, organized by the Organization of KLA War Veterans (OVL) against the decisions of the Special Court against former KLA commanders. A large number of citizens continue to join the protest called in the squares of Pristina.

"We are gathered for justice, against injustice ," are the words with which this protest began.

The Chairman of the KLA War Veterans Organization, Hysni Gucati, during his speech, stated that the Special Court is anti-KLA and is distorting history.

“We know that this Court is a one-sided Court, against the anti-KLA, an anti-state Court of Kosovo.”  He adds:  “The Special Court is distorting our history, under the guise of justice that this Court has defiled, it is doing injustice to those who stood up for freedom, dignity and human existence. The KLA fighters were the legitimate response of our people, oppressed against a criminal regime, such as Serbia led by Milosevic.”

AAK MP Time Kadriaj began singing the song about the hero Adem Jashari in front of the camera. She then said:  "I am lucky that I did not vote for the Special Court. It is the wisest decision I have made in parliamentary history."

Meanwhile, Faik Shehu, vice president of the OVL-UCK branch in Has, stated: " The court, which is founded on the basis of justice, is doing injustice to the people who are persecuted by Serbia."

Survivor of sexual violence during the Kosovo war and former MP, Vasfije Krasniqi, also spoke at the protest. She told the cameras:  "Today I came out here to defend our collective values. It's a little late, but I hope it will be a strong protest to support our KLA values."

With the motto " Against Injustice ", the organizers said they aim to draw attention to the detention of wartime commanders in The Hague.

The protest was also joined by the leader of the Albanian party Democratic Union for Integration in North Macedonia, Ali Ahmeti.

Former KLA leaders, including former President Hashim Thaçi, have been in custody in The Hague since 2020, accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
